“I am living the same day again and again”. Ever been into such a dead end? Life can be extremely beautiful, unpredictable and full of adventures with beautiful women. Or it can be extremely boring and predictable, in such a degree that you could live the same day, again and again, in both circumstances. What would you prefer?
Anyone seen Groundhog Day? Great movie. 1993.
Bill Murray impersonates a weatherman on TV, who is trapped in time. Doomed to live the same day again and again in a little town that he hates, for the Annual Groundhog Day. At the beginning, Bill Murray gets confused and does not know what is going on. He is the only one to remember having lived this day again. So he decides to take advantage of the situation! He learns people’s secrets, collects useful information about hot girls whom he easily seduces the “next day”, he robs banks, ends up in jail, commits suicide using hundrends of different ways… but every morning, he wakes up alive and tottaly healthy. No police looking for him, no frustrated hot girl shouting at him for taking advantage of her.
Sounds amazing.. or not?
Bill Murray uses sneaky tricks at first, in order to have fun. Easy, painless fun. He robs banks, he meets hot girls, learning their secrets that will make them vulnerable. At first, he feels awesome. He is a God! He can eat whatever the wants without getting fat, no dental care needed, no bath, no worry for his health or life. He is untouchable. But as time goes by, he realizes the vanity of the whole thing. No progress, no feeling of accomplishment, no motivation to keep him moving.
After hundreds of pointless suicide attempts, (death was not an option) he decides to change the way he looks at this situation and try to be a better man. At first, he explains the situation to his beautiful co – worker – she believes him, by the way but so what? The “next day”, she remembers nothing at all! So he starts using his knowledge about the day’s happenings in order to help as many people as possible, while alongside he decides to use his free time to evolve his artistic side: He learns to play the piano, he takes french lessons and becomes a great sculptor (ice sculptures).
The Wind Of Change..
Eventually, our hero befriends almost everyone he meets during the day, using his experiences to save lives, to help townspeople and ultimately to impress Rita, without having to resort to manipulation as on previous days. He crafts a report on the Groundhog Day celebration so vivid and touching that all the other stations turn their microphones to him. After the town’s evening dance, Rita “buys” Phil at the event’s bachelor auction for an extraurdinary ammount of money.
Phil makes a snow sculpture of Rita’s face and they kiss, then retire to his room. He is so tired that they just fall asleep. No attempt for sex or tricks!.. He wakes the next morning and finds the time loop is broken!! At last, it is “the next day” and Rita is still with him. They walk outside and Phil proposes that they move to this small town together.
